About Women On The Dark Side

How it started ...

WOTDS actually began because founder Susan Lee got pissed off. A good start for a brand called "Women On The Dark Side". Susan felt she was being pushed aside by a group of women who seemed to be running the geeky world at one point, never allowing her to play in their sandbox, despite her impressive resume. Then Susan realized these women weren't running the entire geeky world, just their own little corner of it.

When she decided to form her own panel, Susan looked at her own history as a theatrical and short film director. Her speciality was taking dark, twisted pieces and finding the humanity and grounding in each of them. Often people would come out of a performance that she had directed and say, "I can't believe a woman directed that." As she related this experience to other female creators, she discovered that she was not the only one receiving that kind of feedback.

And so, "Women On The Dark Side" was formed.

Since its inception in 2016, WOTDS has traveled up and down the West Coast from San Diego Comic-Con to Silicon Valley Comic Con and even down south to Fan Expo in New Orleans. WOTDS also hosted two film festivals in Los Angeles.

This year, founder Susan Lee has big plans for growing WOTDS so stay tuned for what's coming up!
